MEET AMY ENNION
“The water means so many things to me in my life. It is freedom from my daily work and career. It is stillness and meditation, the only time in my life when I feel like my brain truly quiets. And it is a challenge, the likes of which I don’t find anywhere else in the world: an ultra endurance sport where there are no rest breaks.
No walking stops. No downhill free-wheels. No shortcuts, and no quarter given by Mother Nature. The challenge can be scary. It can be terrifying. But it’s at those limits where you truly learn what your mind and body are capable of.”
From before she could walk, Amy loved the water. She grew up playing water polo on the GB development pathway, swimming for fitness, and sailing with her family.
In 2018, as Amy's friends started running half marathons and marathons Amy wondered.... what if I swam one instead? In her first swim marathon Amy placed 3rd woman and 4th overall, and was absolutely hooked. More marathons turned into ultra marathons and Amy wondered: how far am I actually capable of going?
Amy has since pioneered ultramarathon swims around the UK and the Channel Islands, has swum the English Channel, informally created the "French Invasion Triple Crown", and became a member of the 24 hour club with her swim across the 69km length of Lake Geneva.
